Dr. Vicki Keith

I was truly delighted to recognize Dr. Vicki Keith with this award.

Vicki’s achievements as an athlete are nothing short of extraordinary. She is a world record holder in multiple long-distance swimming events, including being the first person to complete a two-way crossing of Lake Ontario and the first to swim all five Great Lakes. Additionally, she made history by being the first to swim the English Channel using the butterfly stroke—a feat she repeated in Lake Ontario, the Strait of San Juan de Fuca, and the Strait of Catalina.

But beyond her impressive swimming career, Vicki has made a lasting impact as a coach, particularly for individuals with disabilities. Her “Penguins Can Fly” program at the Y Penguins Swim Club has resulted in six athletes setting world records, and 24 athletes achieving national and international competition success, many of whom are medalists. Through her efforts, she has shown thousands of children with disabilities that they, too, can accomplish their dreams, whether in the pool or beyond.

Vicki has also been a tireless fundraiser, contributing to charities and helping raise funds to develop athletic programs and facilities for young people with disabilities. Her work has touched countless lives and continues to inspire future generations.

Thank you, Vicki, for your dedication, perseverance, and the incredible legacy you have built in both sports and in your community.
