Expanding Capacity at Quinte Detention Centre

The Ontario government has issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to expand capacity at the Quinte Detention Centre in Napanee. This marks an important step in the province’s plan to modernize its adult correctional system. The expansion will increase the facility’s capacity by over 23%, adding 66 new beds for female offenders and more programming space. This will bring the centre’s total capacity to over 300 beds, better meeting the care and programming needs of those in custody while ensuring a safe environment for corrections staff.

The government remains committed to improving the safety and security of Ontario communities, while providing inmates with the resources necessary for successful rehabilitation. The added programming space will increase the likelihood of successful reintegration into society for those who participate in these specialized programs.

This initiative is part of the broader investment to upgrade and expand critical infrastructure, as well as improve working conditions for frontline corrections staff. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to submit proposals by summer 2025, as part of the Ontario government’s ongoing $500 million investment to modernize adult correctional services.
