Healthcare Initiatives

As we continue our journey toward a robust healthcare system in Ontario, I want to highlight another critical initiative that’s worth reflecting upon.

The Ontario government has taken significant steps to welcome internationally trained medical professionals into our workforce, breaking down barriers and forging new pathways.

  • We’ve been working with the College of Nurses of Ontario and Ontario Health to support hundreds of international nurses in getting licensed.
  • We reduced financial barriers for retired or internationally trained nurses by temporarily covering the cost of examination, application, and registration fees, saving them up to $1,500.
  • We introduced temporary classes allowing internationally educated nurses to register and begin working in Ontario.
  • We created flexible paths for non-practicing or retired nurses to return to the field.
  • We established a new temporary independent practice registration class for physicians from other provinces and territories.

These changes reflect the Ontario government’s commitment to a more inclusive and responsive healthcare system. We are actively working to ensure that every qualified healthcare professional has the opportunity to contribute to our community, no matter where they received their training.

A special thank you to everyone working tirelessly in our healthcare system. Your dedication and resilience are shaping a healthier Ontario for us all.
