Introducing Bill 99: Garrett’s Legacy Act

As I introduce the first reading of Bill 99, also known as Garrett’s Legacy Act (Requirements for Movable Soccer Goals), 2023, I am mindful of the tragic incident that led to this proposed legislation. In 2017, Garrett Mills lost his life due to an accident involving a movable soccer goal that was not adequately secured.

This bill adds new authority to create safety requirements that organizations and entities must follow when making such nets available for public use. I am struck by its importance. It is a step towards a safer future for our children, families, and communities. I am proud to be introducing this bill and being part of the effort to make Hastings-Lennox & Addington and all of Ontario safer for our young people.
