Michael Shabinsky

I was deeply honoured to recognize Michael Shabinsky for his many years of dedication and service to our community.

As a long-time member of the Odessa Lions Club, Mike has been involved in an incredible number of projects and fundraisers. His contributions to local causes are immeasurable, from organizing snowmobile races and supporting local scouts and guides to raising funds for schools, hospitals, and parks. His efforts have extended internationally as well, with contributions to the Kids From Ukraine recovery effort, SightFirst, seeing-eye dog programs, diabetes research, and children’s camps, just to name a few.

However, Mike is perhaps most known for his leadership in delivering the annual Remembrance Day service at the Wilton Cemetery. This important event, which honours our veterans, has become a cornerstone of our community. The ceremony attracts support from hundreds of people, including service clubs, first responders, and representatives from all levels of government.

For a village of just 300 people, the Wilton Cenotaph Remembrance Day service stands as a beacon of respect and remembrance, ensuring that the service and sacrifice of our veterans will never be forgotten. It is my privilege to honour Mike, the driving force behind this remarkable event, who has dedicated 40 years to keeping this tradition alive. Thank you, Mike, for your incredible contribution to our community and to our country.
