National Day of Truth and Reconciliation
Today, for the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, I had the honour of attending two profoundly significant events in our community. First, under the Lions Pavilion at West Zwick’s Park in Belleville, we gathered to reflect on the lasting impacts of the residential school system. We listened, learned, and recommitted to the ongoing journey of reconciliation, bolstered by the voices of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit knowledge keepers.
Later, I joined the Tyendinaga Native Women’s Association for their 3rd annual ‘Every Child Matters’ walk where we walked for the children who didn’t come home, for the survivors, and as a reminder of the intergenerational trauma as a result of residential schools.
