The Ontario government is providing more money to support the expansion and improvement of public transit services in Hastings – Lennox & Addington.
The funding is part of the province’s gas tax program, which will allocate more than $379.5 million to help 107 municipalities operate and improve local transit. The funding for Hastings – Lennox & Addington is as follows:
• Bancroft – $79,713
• Deseronto – $197, 853
• Marmora and Lake (Central Hastings) – $196,534
The Gas tax fund has been a historic way to provide municipalities with much need funding to enable and enhance transit programs, which benefit us in many ways. These funds will go a long way to improving, enhancing and in some areas, expanding our local transit options across the Riding – in Marmora and Lake, Centre Hastings, Madoc, Stirling-Rawdon, Tweed, Greater Napanee, Tyendinaga, Loyalist Township, and the City of Belleville,”
Even though the total amount of gas purchased by residents has declined over the past few years, the Ontario government has kept the municipal component consistent, even while lowering the tax to our residents. On top of that, to make up for reduced gas sales due to ongoing recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s gas tax program includes one-time additional funding of $80 million to help ensure municipalities can continue to support their transit systems.
